Summary

Violet is a prophet and a liar, influencing the royal court with her cleverly phrased—and not always true—divinations。 Honesty is for suckers, like the oh-so-not charming Prince Cyrus, who plans to strip Violet of her official role once he’s crowned at the end of the summer—unless Violet does something about it。

But when the king asks her to falsely prophesy Cyrus’s love story for an upcoming ball, Violet awakens a dreaded curse, one that will end in either damnation or salvation for the kingdom—all depending on the prince’s choice of future bride。 Violet faces her own choice: Seize an opportunity to gain control of her own destiny, no matter the cost, or give in to the ill-fated attraction that’s growing between her and Cyrus。

Violet’s wits may protect her in the cutthroat court, but they can’t change her fate。 And as the boundary between hatred and love grows ever thinner with the prince, Violet must untangle a wicked web of deceit in order to save herself and the kingdom—or doom them all。

A darkly enchanting fantasy debut about a morally gray witch, a cursed prince, and a prophecy that ignites their fate-twisted destinies—perfect for fans of The Cruel Prince and Serpent & Dove

Why am I cursed to fall in love with every single fantasy world I read about。 Also I should have been told that this is going to be a series because I NEED the second book and guess what? We dont even have a date yet for when it might be released :/Anyways this book was pretty dang good and I read it in (technically) one day so that's great。 I didn't especially love any of the characters (except Camilla) or the plot, now that I think about it, but, like most fantasy, this book was like crack to Why am I cursed to fall in love with every single fantasy world I read about。 Also I should have been told that this is going to be a series because I NEED the second book and guess what? My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me this ARC in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

I feel like this book was conceived based on characters and the author went in search of plot threads that never fully came together。 I also didn't see the enemies to lovers or morally grey characters。 I wanted to love this book, but it kind of fell apart in the end and I'm not sure if I'm interested in reading the second book。 I feel like this book was conceived based on characters and the author went in search of plot threads that never fully came together。 I also didn't see the enemies to lovers or morally grey characters。 I wanted to love this book, but it kind of fell apart in the end and I'm not sure if I'm interested in reading the second book。 。。。more

Yes! This is a fun enemies-to-lovers YA fantasy romance with a morally gray protagonist。 Violet is a bit unlikeable, which is fine by me, but I also didn't feel that she's very impressive or exhibited much personal growth over the course of the story。 She has her skills as a Seer, and she's somewhat manipulative, but even then, I would have wanted to see her make even more selfish decisions。 I dunno, I need someone to recommend me a book with a MC who's morally gray in a way that doesn't just in Yes! I thought this book was pretty good at the beginning, but by the end just felt like it was okay。 I don’t regret reading it, because I like enemies to lovers, but this book felt like it wasn’t completely fleshed out。 Would’ve liked to have a bit more of everything - world building, relationship building, etc。 that being said, I’ll read the next one!

Mira

Oh this book was really good。 I loved how unapologetic Violet was and her relationship with Cyrus was really interesting to read about。 Can’t wait to read the next book!❤️

Bland。- characters are literally cardboard cut-outs of cliches- a lot of telling rather than showing。 For example, the MC is supposed to be a badass and super smart according to all the other characters, but there is no evidence of that in her actions。- the world building and political intrigue are cringe-worthy and kind of juvenile。 And I had such high hopes for this, but it didn't meet a single one unfortunately。 Bland。- characters are literally cardboard cut-outs of cliches- a lot of telling rather than showing。 For example, the MC is supposed to be a badass and super smart according to all the other characters, but there is no evidence of that in her actions。- the world building and political intrigue are cringe-worthy and kind of juvenile。 And I had such high hopes for this, but it didn't meet a single one unfortunately。 。。。more

I loved this! It's the first YA fantasy book I've picked up in a while。 I feel like they were all starting to feel eerily the same but I'm so glad this wasn't the case! What I loved: • the MC is sarcastic, witty and a realist。 To compare, it gave me El from Scholomance vibes • the love-hate relationship。 Very enemies to lovers without the lovers part and just "hate that I love you" vibes which was amazing • good pacing• interesting world building that was easy to understand• fairytale-esque I did I loved this! Violet Made of Thorns is a story of schemes, curses, and enemies to lovers, and it is all showcased inside a dark fantasy fairytale。 The author relied heavily on the fairy tale trope to move along with her story。 The two main characters are Violet, the seerer, and Cyrus, the prince plagued by a prophecy (curse)。 They constantly fight to the point where you want to scream oh, make out already。 The romance is intense in places, and the dark parts are borderline mayhem of what is going on。 I contin Violet Made of Thorns is a story of schemes, curses, and enemies to lovers, and it is all showcased inside a dark fantasy fairytale。 The author relied heavily on the fairy tale trope to move along with her story。 The two main characters are Violet, the seerer, and Cyrus, the prince plagued by a prophecy (curse)。 They constantly fight to the point where you want to scream oh, make out already。 The romance is intense in places, and the dark parts are borderline mayhem of what is going on。 I continued with the story cause the world-building made the world so enjoyable。 The beasts, the fairies, and the fairy wood combined to create a world I liked to explore more as I continued reading the story。 I felt that the story was solid tell we got to the end, and then it felt like the author wasn't quite sure how she wanted things to go, so she threw a whole bunch of stuff in and left us waiting for the next book to see how it all gets solved。 Overall this was not a bad debut, but it could have been better 。。。more

Well written and beautifully crafted。 The plot is intriguing and twisting, the characters have true depth to them, and even if this was a stand alone novel it would stand tall。

I had been looking forward to this book for so long because of the exciting premise, only for all my hopes to be squandered at a lack of true character development, confusing plot lines, and an over-reliance on fairytale tropes。 The writing style felt too modern for what it was trying to be, and although it made it easier and less unbearable to read, it did not add to the story nor did it enchant me in any way。 The ending and the betrayal(s) was predictable and anticlimactic, but the protagonist I had been looking forward to this book for so long because of the exciting premise, only for all my hopes to be squandered at a lack of true character development, confusing plot lines, and an over-reliance on fairytale tropes。 The writing style felt too modern for what it was trying to be, and although it made it easier and less unbearable to read, it did not add to the story nor did it enchant me in any way。 The ending and the betrayal(s) was predictable and anticlimactic, but the protagonist Violet suffered no consequences of her actions and subsequently sounded like a brat to me, no matter her street kid origin story。 。。。more

Picked this book up on a whim and I’m so glad I did! This was so thoroughly interesting and though I have some questions and want some clarifications on how the magic works, I’m hopeful they’ll be answered in book 2! I love a good anti-heroine and Violet definitely was that。

✰ 3。5 stars! ✰I liked the banter between Violet & Cyrus BUT the romance was too rushed & unbelievable for my liking。 I also liked Camilla's character and the story's concept (and that cover!)。I think a little more plot and worldbuilding would have been nice but maybe we'll get that in the sequel。 ✰ 3。5 stars! ✰I liked the banter between Violet & Cyrus BUT the romance was too rushed & unbelievable for my liking。 I also liked Camilla's character and the story's concept (and that cover!)。I think a little more plot and worldbuilding would have been nice but maybe we'll get that in the sequel。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book! Cleverly phrased prophecies that are all lies, courtly betrayals, and a seer who looks out for herself above all else。 It definitely isn't as vicious as Cruel Prince, but I can see why they're compared to each other。 The banter between Violet and "Princey" is definitely my favorite! Unexpected steam was pretty fantastic too! Definitely looking forward to more of this story! I really enjoyed this book! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Ok so first things first, it’s a well written book with an interesting narrative and not massive amounts of character development but a few。My issue with this book was that I didn’t like the MC。 I thought she was horrible and did not at all understand why the Prince loved her。 Nope。 She was toxic。 The Prince had more redeeming qualities than she did。 And also the reasons why she disliked him… what were they again? It was never fully explained and the whole thing felt a bit uncomfortable。 I like Ok so first things first, it’s a well written book with an interesting narrative and not massive amounts of character development but a few。My issue with this book was that I didn’t like the MC。 I thought she was horrible and did not at all understand why the Prince loved her。 Nope。 She was toxic。 The Prince had more redeeming qualities than she did。 And also the reasons why she disliked him… what were they again? damn, this was good。 i’m giving it 4 stars just now (4。5) but may bump it up to five later, as i had a few small issues with it。 but the overall vibe and dynamic between our two main characters was everything。 i thought this was going in a direction i didn’t care for at the end but gina chen managed to switch it around and i’m slightly obsessed。
